Kris embarked upon a journey tracing the roots of this blood disorder starting with a trip to Mississippi’s rural towns to capture her family’s story. It was then that she learned about the connection of flowers to her lineage, and the project that’s still unfolding, Genealogy was born. Within this project, Kris is teaching floral painting experiences within botanical gardens and museums globally. These unforgettable experiences of watercolor floral painting focuses on the historical healing properties of flowers. While painting, class participants are also able to release endorphins following Kris' swift flow painting style.
While learning watercolor techniques, participants can glean from Kris' personal story and her life's journey. In the process, participants gain insights on the therapeutic connections between artistry and self-discovery. Salt Lake City - Red Butte Garden Painting Experience with Kris Keys
Join interdisciplinary artist and designer Kris Keys for an unforgettable experience of watercolor floral painting at Red Butte Garden in Salt Lake City, Kris' interactive classes forces on the healing and historical properties of flowers while guests are able to release endorphins through Kris' swift flow of painting. While learning water coloring techniques, participants also glean from Kris' personal story and life's journey. Rose Painting with Los Angeles Arboretum
In her second collaboration with the Los Angeles County Arboretum, internationally trained watercolor artist Kris Keys will lead a dual instructional and performance art experience that harnesses the therapeutic power of roses. During an intimate evening in the Rose Garden at Sunset, Kris demonstrates and calmly imparts beginner-level watercoloring techniques while guiding participants through their own path to self-discovery. She uses florals and the story of her own journey to create a uniquely luxurious psychosensory exercise in mindfulness, as participants surrender to the release of endorphins promoting creativity and healing.
Irena Cora Stathis (Founder, Flowering Earth School of Herbalism) will be on-site to share her comprehensive knowledge of rose-based herbal remedies to improve overall wellness.
Memphis Painting Experience
Join Kris for a beautiful celebration of mothers with Black Seeds Urban Farms in Memphis, TN. Kris will guide guests through a workshop painting flowers and herbs that our mothers and grandmothers once used for healing and medicinal purposes. Floral expert and ethno-botanist Bobby Rich will give the historical context of each floral herb as it relates to black history and agriculture. Adult men and women are welcome to join this class.
